![]() ![]() Your external drive is formatted NTFS which OS X can read from but not write to. I do think I should get about 5 years of hardware compatibility with most products and I keep older Mac's around for dedicated services as long as they aren't a costly maintenance issue. Eventually the SATA hard drives and other USB and Firewire replacements became so cheap and performance improved enough that loosing SCSI with Tiger was not a big deal. I'd spent quite a bit of cash to ensure high quality and performance and didn't want to loose all of the investment. Several of my devices were SCSI (I was into SCSI Wide/Fast drive arrays at the time for video capture), and I was able to use an Adaptec card for scanning for several years with Jaguar and Panther. I went through the same type of issue when I bought my Dual G4 1.42 Tower (upgraded from a Quadra 840AV ). They should still be very fast storage devices, and probably reliable due to the ongoing support the vendor has provided. With the new drivers I suspect you'll be able to use your drives, I just don't think you'll be able to boot from them if the interface card requires drivers. Hardware is too pricey to just leave behind if you can't help it. I don't see any problems with using the card and drives on your new Mac. Why mess with this? Well, I got the HDDs and the enclosure from my previous PPC, so I'd like to make use of it all without $pending again. You will want to ask your questions with different issues that come up in different threads so that the answers stay focused on the title of the thread. You are also welcome to continue to ask questions here, of course. They have an appointment system and do offer many types of help and training, and they can offer assistance with choosing the proper programs for you to purchase for your machine. With your level of experience with MacOS X and the Windows OS's you should probably get some help from a local Apple store. After you are updated you will want to update your Profile here so that it shows the proper OS version. 'Software Update' is located under the black Apple icon in the Menu Bar at the top left corner of your monitor. In addition to all the above information, you need to upgrade your Mac to the latest 10.5.7 from 10.5.1. ![]() It works with a narrow subset of Windows programs so you would want to make sure the program you want to run is compatible with CrossOver before you buy it. It's based on a project for 'Wine' to be able to run PC programs on a Mac or Linux, without having to buy or install Windows. It's called 'CrossOver' by a company named 'Codeweavers'. There is at least one other solution for running Windows programs on a Mac. The second part of your problem - You will need a copy of Windows XP or Vista if you want to run Windows on your Mac. You are running Leopard 10.5.7 as an operating system on your Mac (MacOS X). The first part is setting up either a proper Virtual Machine program like Parallels or VMfusion, or setting up a Boot Camp partition on your drive. This brings up the second part of your problem. Hopefully there isn't some obscure issue with the update.Honestly I've no idea of what an OS is or where do I get that. ![]() Most existing machines are still at 10.6.6. After that everything is all packages and OS updates which get applied at or after imaging. I end up with a non-booted dmg that I run through Casper NetInstall Creator 3.2. I have been creating the caper dmg from the latest thunderbolt Macbook media and applying the 10.6.8 Combo uptate to that (offline) volume. I went in via dscl and Deleted the user from /Local/Default/Users, which resolved the issue and I didn't pursue it further. One similar login issue I did see with 10.6.8 was a user was *not* visible in System Prefs even though they had logged in many times. I always see every user who logs in under the accounts prefs. On my setup, all accounts are mobile accounts (Create mobile account at login in the AD plugin). It's interesting that you mention that the local user account showing in the prefs pane. I've been watching this thread with interest as I am currently updating the core OS of our images to 10.6.8.
